Why Great Yarmouth First?
Great Yarmouth First has been created to give our community its own strong, independent voice at a time when that is being taken away from us.
For too long, decisions about Great Yarmouth have been made by people who don’t understand our community. Look around our town, it shows. Party politics has failed us. Local politicians more concerned about national politics than what is happening in our town, on our streets, in our communities.
We deserve better.
With the latest plans to reorganise local councils and centralise control, there’s a real danger that Great Yarmouth will be pushed to the sidelines, again.
Another forgotten seaside town left to cope with declining services, low investment, and poor representation. Power and control focused in areas that just don’t care about Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and the surrounding areas.
We believe the people of Great Yarmouth deserve better.
We believe local people should have the loudest say in shaping our town’s future.
Let’s put local Great Yarmouth men and women into these councils to ensure that our voice is heard. Not the priorities of Westminster or Norwich, but Great Yarmouth’s.
Great Yarmouth First exists to:
- Put residents before bureaucracy. Ensuring any future council structure protects local decision-making in Great Yarmouth.
- Defend local jobs and services – fighting to keep investment, tourism revenue, and regeneration funding here, not in Norwich or elsewhere.
- Stand up for pride and place – celebrating our heritage, patriotism, country and community spirit.
- Fight for Great Yarmouth – no petty party politics, just local people battling for local services and investment.
Rupert Lowe MP is funding the membership fees of the first 500 local people who join the party.
Great Yarmouth First Chair Rupert Lowe MP:
“I am delighted to formally endorse Great Yarmouth First, and will happily campaign alongside the brave men and women who are going to fight for our community.
Look at what national party politics has achieved for Great Yarmouth, just look around. It has failed our community. Again and again. It is time for something entirely new, something that is entirely focused on doing what is right for Great Yarmouth. Not what is right for Norwich, or the wider county, but what is right for Great Yarmouth.
We need to be selfish. We need to do what is right for our community. We need to put Great Yarmouth First.”
